Several Vols will find professional homes next week.
Following their run through the NCAA Tournament and College World Series, several Tennessee baseball players are preparing for the next stage of their careers. The MLB Draft is just a week away, and a couple of Volunteers are being projected as first round picks.
Christian Moore, who absolutely tore things up in his final season in Knoxville, has been viewed as a late riser in the process. He’s settled into the top 15 for now — a widely popular projection to land with the Boston Red Sox.
Billy Amick is also in the first round conversation, but his projection is a little more murky. Drew Beam, Blake Burke, Kavares Tears and Dylan Dreiling have all been mentioned as second or third round options.
Here’s a look at some of the MLB Mock Drafts from around the web.
Christian Moore: 12th (Red Sox)
Billy Amick: 29th (Diamondbacks)

Billy Amick: 32nd (Orioles)
Drew Beam: 58th (Rays)
Blake Burke: 63rd (Phillies)

Tennessee has seen a huge uptick in MLB Draft picks since Tony Vitello arrived. The Vols sent eight to the draft last season and ten back in 2022. Chase Dollander, Drew Gilbert, Jordan Beck and Garrett Crochet are Tennessee’s most recent first round selections. From the looks of things, they’ll be adding two names to that list next week.
The 2024 MLB Draft begins on Sunday (July 14) at 5 p.m. ET. It will run through Tuesday, July 16th.
