An outstanding choice.

Tennessee made a change to its video board on Wednesday, replacing one former NFL star with a current one. Alvin Kamara took the place of Jason Witten, and now sits alongside of stars from earlier eras — Al Wilson and General Robert Neyland.

Witten retired following the 2020 season, and now coaches high school football in Texas.

Kamara has quickly became one of the top running backs in the NFL following his time at Tennessee. The JUCO product was electric in Knoxville, rushing for nearly 1,300 yards in his two seasons as a Vol. Frankly, Kamara was underutilized by former head coach Butch Jones, forced to play behind Jalen Hurd at the time.

Following Hurd’s exit, Kamara went on to set a single game school record for all-purpose yardage — 312 against Texas A&M in 2016 in an overtime thriller.

Kamara went on to be taken 67th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. Since then, he’s been nothing short of spectacular. Kamara has over 3,300 rushing yards and over 2,800 receiving yards so far in his career. He’s scored 58 touchdowns in the league so far.

Now with Drew Brees retired, Kamara is set for an even bigger role in the offense. He’s one of the most marketable names in the NFL today, thanks in part to his routinely ridiculous fantasy football numbers. Every recruit coming to Knoxville knows who Alvin Kamara is, so this move makes quite a bit of sense from that aspect.

Kamara has been no stranger to the program since he left for the NFL either, which certainly helps. The NFL star was on the sidelines for this year’s Orange and White Game, getting to know the new staff, which has openly embraced VFLs.

“I think he has something going as far as they way he wants to run the team. I think they’re receptive to him and I think they like him. I’m looking forward to the season.”@A_kamara6 was pretty impressed with #Vols HC Josh Heupel today. pic.twitter.com/ywnqoUIJbJ
