Another veteran defensive back in the portal.

Tennessee has lost another veteran defensive back to the transfer portal this morning. Brandon Turnage is the latest Volunteer to hit the portal, opting to look elsewhere to spend his final season of eligibility. Turnage still has one season left due to the NCAA’s COVID year rule.

The former four-star prospect transferred to Tennessee from Alabama a few years back. He’s been in and out of the lineup over the past couple of seasons, but never really solidified a role in the defense. Turnage made one start for Tennessee in 2021 and five in 2022. He appeared in ten games during the 2023 season.

Turnage ends his Tennessee career with one interception, 48 total tackles and six passes defensed. He joins fellow veteran cornerback Warren Burrell in the portal, along with freshman safety Jack Luttrell.

Tennessee is set to see quite the overhaul in the secondary this offseason with several senior faces exiting the program. Considering the ups and downs over the last two seasons, perhaps that’s not a bad thing. Tennessee has added several blue-chip prospects at corner over the last couple of cycles, and it looks like they’re going to get a chance to compete this offseason.

Gabe Jeudy-Lally, Doneiko Slaughter, Tamarion McDonald and Wesley Walker each could choose to return for one more season. Expect to see those decisions made over the next few weeks.
