Another loss to Tennessee’s depth.
Guard Cameron Carr will not be returning to Tennessee following his injury. The former four-star prospect will instead be leaving the program. Carr will hit the transfer portal and take a redshirt season.
Carr played in the first four games of the season before going down with an injury. He’s been dealing with a ligament issue in his left thumb since late November. Rick Barnes expected him back around this time of year ahead of SEC play.
Carr averaged 4.8 points in the four appearances he made this season. He was expected to be a key piece of depth for Tennessee after receiving plenty of hype during the offseason.
Tennessee is now down to just nine scholarship players. They’ll need all of them available and ready to roll for the rest of the season after also losing sophomore center JP Estrella for the season due to injury. Tennessee began the season with just 11 of 13 scholarship positions available.
Carr, a Link Academy prospect out of Branson, Missouri, ranked 54th overall in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports.
Tennessee will now toe the line of depth for the rest of the season — still ranked No. 1 in the country in today’s latest AP top 25 poll.
