A solid landing spot.
With the 37th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Detroit Pistons have selected Tennessee shooting guard Chaz Lanier. This exact spot was heavily rumored in the weeks leading up to the draft and it ends up happening tonight.

The Pistons went 44-38 this past season and landed the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Detroit is led by star guard Cade Cunningham and former Volunteer Tobias Harris. The organization badly needed some shooting depth at guard and Lanier certainly fits that bill here early in the second round.
Lanier averaged 18 points for Tennessee this season, which was his only year against SEC competition. The Nashville native was a role player at North Florida for three seasons before exploding onto the NBA’s radar in 2023-24. Lanier scored nearly 20 points per game while shooting 44 percent from three-point range in his final season with North Florida.
The 6-4 guard helped lead Tennessee to another Elite Eight appearance this season, filling the shoes of Dalton Knecht. The Volunteers have now placed back to back senior additions out of the transfer portal in the NBA Draft.
Lanier is the 55th Tennessee player selected in the NBA Draft all time. He joins the likes of Grant Williams, Admiral Schofield, Jordan Bone, Keon Johnson, Jaden Springer, Julian Phillips, Kennedy Chandler and Dalton Knecht as Rick Barnes era selections.
Tennessee will have a good chance to add to that list this time next year with five-star freshman forward Nate Ament projected as a lottery pick.
