Fans Trolled Tennessee Football After Wins Were Vacated

July 16, 2023 by The Spun

The fallout of the Tennessee football recruiting scandal led to a fine, recruiting restrictions and 13 wins vacated from their 2019 and 2020 seasons. But while fans aren’t exactly weeping for the Vols, they are trolling them over one thing that they DIDN’T lose.

When a team is forced to vacate wins, they don’t get to vacate the losses. As a result, fans have been trolling Tennessee over being unable to wipe away their infamous 2019 season opening loss to Georgia State.

That loss saw Tennessee give up 17 points in the fourth quarter en route to a 38-30 loss against the Sun Belt team.

So while Tennessee saw their Gator Bowl win over Indiana vanish in the blink of an eye, that loss will be on their record forever. And fans won’t let them forget it either:

Tennessee must vacate every win from 2019-2020.

It’s worth a mention that the NCAA vacating Tennessee’s wins does not impact their 2019 opener against Georgia State.

Hundreds of violations and the bozo lost to Georgia State. Glad Tennessee avoided bowl bans https://t.co/RrlDmqajgq

Tennessee have to be thanking their stars that they cooperated with the NCAA in the way that they did. Had they failed to cooperate, the NCAA likely would have dropped the hammer 10 times harder with bowl bans and potentially crippling sanctions on the program.

The Vols should be able to navigate their way out of the punishments they did receive with relative ease.

But they’ll be the butt of jokes for a long while.
