On Tuesday, the NCAA announced that four former members of the Tennessee football program reached an agreement with the enforcement staff regarding recruiting violations and impermissible benefits.
The NCAA said it won’t reveal further details in order to “protect the integrity of the ongoing process.”
Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated reported that inside linebackers coach Brian Niedermeyer, outside linebackers coach Shelton Felton, director of player personnel Drew Hughes and student assistant Michael Magness will receive show-cause penalties of three-to-five years.
These violations were committed under former Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt.
“And now we know why Jeremy Pruitt isn’t the Alabama DC,” David Schultz of Locked On Sun Belt tweeted.
“I see Jeremy Pruitt is still haunting us,” one fan said.
“There should be a new rule that if you got caught cheating but didn’t make the playoffs, the only punishment you receive is everyone gets to laugh at you for cheating and still losing,” another fan joked.
Pruitt has not coached at the collegiate level since his departure from Tennessee.
It’ll be fascinating to see how the NCAA decides to discipline these former Tennessee staff members.
