A much needed addition.

Tennessee is dealing with a key injury this offseason to top cornerback Jermod McCoy, who tore his ACL during an offseason workout in January. He’s expected back at some point this fall, but the Volunteers needed a little insurance at the position. Hood will serve as just that, coming in with three years of eligibility remaining.
Hood, a former three-star prospect, began his career at Auburn but quickly moved on to Colorado. Playing opposite of Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, Hood was credited with 24 tackles, six passes defensed and two interceptions as a redshirt freshman last season. The 5-11, 190 pound cornerback is originally out of McDonough, Georgia.
Outside of McCoy, Tennessee will return Rickey Gibson and Jalen McMurray to the cornerback spot. Former four-star prospect Kaleb Beasley should see some opportunities as well. Hood will now enter that mix, giving Tennessee another option as McCoy continues to rehab.
Tennessee still has needs to fill at both safety and wide receiver. Josh Heupel and his staff have been connected to several receiver names over the past few weeks, but haven’t yet landed one. Safety is a new need, following Jakobe Thomas’ decision to head to Miami on Thursday. Expect to hear a few options emerge there in the coming days.
