Finally, another receiver name surfaces.

Tennessee has already landed former Alabama receiver Amari Jefferson, but considering everything the Volunteers lost, they simply can’t be done adding to the position. And yet, the portal news has been quiet for the past week — until now.

Former Penn State receiver Omari Evans is planning on taking a visit to Tennessee, according to Hayes Fawcett at On3. Evans told the outlet that he will also visit Texas Tech, Washington and Syracuse.

Evans caught 21 passes for 415 yards and five touchdowns last season with the Nittany Lions, which was his first year with extended action. The Texas native stands in at 6-0, 190 pounds. Evans, a former high school quarterback, was a three-star prospect in the class of 2022. Per 247Sports, Evans was the 541st ranked player in the cycle.

Evans led Penn State in yards per catch this year by a good margin. He averaged nearly 20 yards per reception and was third on the team in receiving yards. Tennessee certainly is in need of more playmakers that can work down the field, especially after losing Dont’e Thornton and Squirrel White.

Tennessee’s new-look receiver room will start with Chris Brazzell and Mike Matthews, while Amari Jefferson and Braylon Staley will be in the rotation. The Volunteers will also welcome three true freshmen to the depth chart, with each needing to be ready to play this fall as things currently stand on the roster.

Josh Heupel and the coaching staff seemed to slow-play the portal a bit, which is understandable with how the calendar fell up against the College Football Playoff. The window to enter the portal is now closed until the spring, but those already entered are fee to pick a new school at any time.

Tennessee will have a second chance to add from the portal from April 16th to April 25th.
