Tennessee needs a win to stay alive.
Tennessee is looking to bounce back this afternoon after taking a loss in game one of the College World Series finals. Texas A&M jumped out to an early lead on Saturday and never looked back, beating No. 1 Tennessee 9-5 to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
The Volunteers started Chris Stamos on the mound, sticking to the plan that’s gotten them to this point. They’ll now turn to Drew Beam today in a must-win spot. Beam is 8-2 on the year with a 4.16 ERA.
“I know it sounds coachy, but if you start thinking about things other than that, Tennessee is going to blow you out of this ballpark,” Texas A&M coach Jim Schlossnagle said after the win on Saturday night. “We’re facing a great team and we’re facing a great pitcher tomorrow. And I have no idea who we’re going to pitch. We’ll put it together. But we’ll just do what we do. That’s all we can do.”
