Good news.
After scaring Tennessee fans to death on Saturday night, it sure sounds like Nico Iamaleava is good to go against Georgia. Josh Heupel said that the staff held him out in the second half against Mississippi State as a precaution after ESPN reported that Iamaleava had been ruled out with an upper body injury.
Heupel said he expected Iamaleava to play against Georgia after the game. He reiterated that today.
“He was with us today and had a good day,” Heupel said of his quarterback. “Feel like he’ll be in great shape for Saturday.”
Iamaleava went into the locker room at halftime with his teammates and didn’t return. He was in the middle of one of his best statistical games of SEC play, throwing for 174 yards and two touchdowns on just eight completions.
Gaston Moore took over, and Tennessee largely leaned on the rushing attack to kill the clock and put Mississippi State away.
Tennessee is a 9.5 point underdog against Georgia on Saturday night. Obviously they’re going to need their emerging star quarterback to go in this one and be close to 100 percent. Georgia’s — and maybe Tennessee’s — season is on the line.
The first official injury report will come out late on Wednesday night.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
