Tennessee has finished up their open week and now their full attention turns to Kentucky. The Wildcats are now 6-2, fresh off of a road loss to Mississippi State on Saturday. Kentucky does remain ranked, sitting at No. 18 in the country.
The Volunteers have dropped back to back games, but they did get a timely bye week. Injuries to Hendon Hooker, Cade Mays, Elijah Simmons and several others have hindered Tennessee and their paper thin depth, so the break was much needed.
Now a trip to Kentucky looms, with a legitimate chance to finish Heupel’s first season at Tennessee with a 7-5 mark. It’s a night game at Kroger Field, and last year’s blowout loss should be firmly on the minds of the Volunteers all week.
Kentucky has opened as a three point favorite over Tennessee, per DraftKings Sportsbook. The total sits at 58.5 points. Tennessee is 3-5 against the spread on the year so far. Five of their eight games have hit the over.
Tennessee’s 21st ranked offense will face Kentucky’s 34th ranked defense. The question will be, can Kentucky score enough points to hang with the Volunteers? The Wildcats rank 92nd in total offense, coming off of a 17 point performance against Mississippi State. They’ve now dropped two in a row as well, although we can’t fault them too much for the loss to Georgia.
