Look: Sights and sounds from Tennessee’s National Championship celebration in Omaha

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Tennessee v Texas A&M
Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

What a night.

And finally — Tennessee has a National Championship in baseball. Tony Vitello’s Tennessee Volunteers took down Texas A&M on Monday night in Omaha, hanging on for dear life for a 6-5 victory.

Dylan Dreiling smacked a huge two-run shot for insurance in the 7th inning, then Kavares Tears (somehow) drove in Hunter Ensley for another. Ensley’s wild juke at home plate ended up being the difference in this one, as the Aggies came back to threaten in the 9th. Aaron Combs finally closed the door though, finishing the job for the Volunteers on the mound.

History.

As you can imagine with this group, the celebration was legendary. Vitello had perhaps the best reaction to a (Powerade) bath you’ll ever see.

Vitello also got to share a special moment with his father just outside of the Tennessee dugout.

And naturally, in something that has become a bit of a tradition this postseason, Vitello took a trip to the stands to be with the fans. He took off down the third base line and dove into the crowd.

Just as Vitello has supported both Josh Heupel and Rick Barnes on the football and basketball side, Barnes and Heupel were in attendance on Monday in Omaha. The three shared a really cool moment after the game.

And finally, the entire team hit the stage for the trophy presentation to cap the night.

What a journey that was. From the Knoxville Regionals to Evansville, to the wild comeback against Florida State all the way to the finals, this team certainly earned every bit of this.
