Odds: Tennessee a big favorite over Vanderbilt

November 22, 2023 by Rocky Top Talk

NCAA Football: Tennessee at Vanderbilt
Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Vegas expects a blowout.

Somehow, we’re already to the end of the regular season. Tennessee, now 7-4 after a blowout loss at home to Georgia, will finish things up against Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon. The Volunteers will host the Commodores, who will be coming off of a bye week (due to playing in week zero).

Vanderbilt lost to South Carolina 47-6 two weeks ago.

The Commodores have dropped nine straight, following two layup wins to start the year. The Volunteers have handled Vandy twice since Josh Heupel arrived, earning a 45-21 win and a 56-0 win in their last two tries.

“Listen, they’ve had two weeks of preparation,” Josh Heupel said of Vanderbilt. “Opportunity to get healthy. This is an in state game. This is a big game for them. It’s a big game for us too, and we need to go finish it. Gotta play physical. You gotta win at the line of scrimmage. I just mentioned it— we got to win some one-on-ones in this one too.”

Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Tennessee opened as a 27 point favorite in this spot. The total has been set at 56.5.

It’s senior day for Tennessee, which will be dealing with plenty of injuries on Saturday. The Volunteers have multiple issues in the secondary, with Jourdan Thomas, Tamarion McDonald and Wesley Walker. The Vols are also banged up on the offensive line, losing standout guard Javontez Spraggins for the year after he went down with a leg injury against Georgia. Tackles John Campbell and Gerald Mincey were ruled out ahead of the Georgia game.

Kickoff is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
