Monday was a big day for Tennessee’s nationally-ranked baseball program.
The Volunteers announced this afternoon that head coach Tony Vitello has completed his three-game suspension for an unspecified violation.
Simultaneously, star transfer Maui Ahuna, who had been ineligible through Tennessee’s first six games, has now been cleared.
An All-Big 12 selection for Kansas in 2022, Ahuna hit .396 with eight homers and 48 RBIs for the Jayhawks and should provide a major boost to the Vols’ lineup.
UT fans had been waiting on news regarding Ahuna for some time, so they’re understandably excited to find out he’s finally able to play.
“It’s Mele Kelikimaka in February!! And Don Antonio is back, too,” said one fan on Twitter.
“Let’s go!!!” added another.
“FREEDOM!!” said a third.
“Wish I could tag all the haters,” chimed in a fourth.
With Vitello out and associate head coach Josh Elander acting in his place, the Volunteers swept a three-game series against Dayton over the weekend.
After losing their first two games of the season, Tennessee has won six in a row heading into a two-game series against Charleston Southern tomorrow and Wednesday.
