Another big addition.
After spending his freshman season at Rice, Blaine Brown hit the portal looking for other opportunities. Just a couple of weeks later, he’s found one with Tennessee baseball.
The two-way player will look to continue developing as a sophomore, coming off a freshman season that saw him land on the First-Team All-AAC team as a designated hitter.

Brown also made seven appearances on the mound, starting four games for the Owls. The 6-3, 180 pounder hit .292 with ten home runs and 38 RBIs this season. Brown struggled on the mound, registering a 20+ ERA in his six appearances. He did deal with some shoulder issues, however. We’ll see what kind of plan the Tennessee coaching staff puts in place for him once he arrives on campus.
Interestingly enough, Brown got the start against Tennessee back in March in Houston. The Volunteers chased him after just 0.1 innings, four walks and two earned runs. Brown did come back register a hit later in the game.
Tennessee hosted Brown on a visit on Wednesday, where he committed and made things public on Thursday afternoon. The Volunteers have now picked up eight players out of the transfer portal so far and Tony Vitello attempts to reload once again.
