A non-traditional look to start.
The Tennessee Volunteers will open the season wearing their new Smokey Grey look. The team announced their plans to wear their alternate look against Chattanooga next week, as they open the season on August 31st.

The Volunteers revealed their new ‘Smokey Grey’ uniforms last month, which pay homage to the state of Tennessee. The state’s name can be found across the chest of the jersey, which will mark the first time that’s been done. The Tennessee state flag is also featured prominently, complete with a tri-star patch on the sleeve and three stars down the pants leg.
It’s the latest iteration of the look, which continues to evolve year to year. Last season Tennessee honored former quarterback Condredge Holloway.
Tennessee continues to innovate under Danny White and Josh Heupel. Orange helmets, an all black ‘dark mode’ look and the continuation of the ‘Smokey Grey’ series have all debuted since the duo arrived in 2021.
Tennessee and Chattanooga are set for a 12:15 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, August 31st.
