Tennessee basketball set to host five-star prospect

A name to know for the 2025 cycle.

The Tennessee basketball program has shifted to more of a transfer portal approach to roster building, but elite prep recruits will always be coveted — and the Vols are in on at least one for the 2025 cycle. Five-star guard Darius Adams is set for a visit to Knoxville in September.

News: Darius Adams, the No. 17 overall prospect in the class of 2025 has set the following visits:

NC State – 9/6-9/8
Tennessee -9/13-9/15
Michigan State – 9/20-9/22
Alabama – 9/27-9-29
UConn 10/4-10/6
Notre Dame – 10/10-10/12 pic.twitter.com/zVOVQmmFov

As London reports, Adams will also take looks at Michigan State, NC State, Alabama, UConn and Notre Dame.

The 6-5 shooting guard is the 17th ranked player in the class of 2025, per 247Sports. He’s the fourth-ranked shooting guard prospect in the class and the second-ranked player in the state of Indiana. Adams is out of La Porte and plays for La Lumiere School.

Adams will take his visit to Knoxville in September beginning on the 13th. Tennessee football will be hosting Kent State that weekend.

Tennessee currently has one commitment in the class of 2025 — three-star center DeWayne Brown. The Volunteers signed just one prep prospect in the class of 2024, four-star guard Bishop Boswell. Rick Barnes and his staff have gone heavy with the portal for the last two offseasons, striking gold a year ago with Dalton Knecht. This year they’ve gone that route again this offseason, picking up veterans Chaz Lanier, Darlinstone Dubar, Igor Milicic and Felix Okpara.

With a senior-heavy roster once again this year, the Tennessee staff will once again be in full reload mode next offseason. How many prep prospects vs. how many portal players they take will be interesting to see.
