The first major poll is out.
The Tennessee Volunteers will officially begin the season as a top 15 team, according to the coaches poll. The first of the two major college football polls was released on Monday, placing Tennessee as the 15th ranked team in the country. That ranking is in line with what we’ve seen all spring and summer long.
Tennessee comes in as the seventh-ranked team out of the SEC in the poll. (1) Georgia, (4) Texas, (5) Alabama, (6) Ole Miss, (11) Missouri and (12) LSU were all ranked ahead of the Volunteers, with Oklahoma coming in just behind at No. 16.
The first AP poll will be out next week.
Tennessee ranks 16th to start the year in ESPN’s S&P+ ratings. They rank ninth in ESPN’s FPI ratings with a 36.9 percent chance to make the College Football Playoff. The Vols will open on August 31st against Chattanooga in Knoxville.
