Hobby was a three-year starter for the Volunteers who earned all-conference honors following the 1989 season. He went on to become a third round selection in the 1990 NFL Draft. Hobby spent time with the Patriots and Vikings during his professional career.
Following a brief playing career, Hobby immediately hit the coaching ranks. He began as a strength coach with Tennessee-Martin, eventually working his way back to Tennessee in 1998. Hobby made the leap to defensive line coach with Ole Miss in 1999, following David Cutcliffe, and moved to Clemson in 2005.
He moved in and out of the NFL and college ranks before landing the co-defensive coordinator role at Clemson from 2011-2016, where he helped Dabo Swinney win a national title. Hobby spent time with the Bengals, Dolphins, Saints and Jaguars coaching the defensive line in the NFL.
After moving on from the Bengals in January, Hobby will now work under Tim Banks and Rodney Garner at Tennessee. Garner and Hobby will form quite the experienced duo as they continue to develop the Volunteers’ defensive front, which has become an obvious strength of the program over the last couple of seasons.
