A potential solution.
Tennessee has one more open spot on the roster that they would love to give to a veteran guard, but they haven’t quite found the right fit just yet. The next option on the board was revealed this week with the Volunteers being connected to veteran guard Ethan Burg, who comes from Israel.
According to VolQuest, Burg was on campus last weekend for a visit. He’s currently in the process of determining his eligibility with the NCAA.
The 6-3 shooting guard has spent the last two seasons playing professionally in Israel, where he averaged north of 11 points per game and shot 37 percent from three-point range. Burg is 22 years old and it’s unclear how many seasons of eligibility he would have should he land with Tennessee.
The Volunteers still have a need for depth at guard, particular in the experience category. Tennessee will have veteran Ja’Kobi Gillespie running the show at point and veteran guard Amaree Abram at shooting guard. Outside of that there’s Bishop Boswell and a handful of true freshmen.
There’s no doubt that Tennessee will lean heavily on future NBA lottery pick Nate Ament, but adding a guard to round out the roster is clearly a priority to the staff, especially with Tennessee’s physical brand of basketball.
Tennessee has flirted with a few options at guard over the last month. It now seems like it’s in the NCAA’s hands as to whether Burg will be that fit for the upcoming season.
