The new top ranked team in the country.
The Tennessee Volunteers are the No. 1 basketball team in the land once again. The AP voters placed Tennessee on top of their latest top 25 rankings, which were revealed on Monday.
Tennessee capitalized on losses by Auburn and Kansas to move up to the No. 1 spot. The Volunteers last were ranked No. back in 2019 with Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield. This year’s team began the season ranked 12th in the preseason polls, but a hot start has pushed them up quickly. Tennessee holds wins over Louisville, Syracuse, Baylor and Virginia to open the season. More opportunities are coming too, with Miami and Illinois remaining on the non-conference slate.
Tennessee also debuted at No. in the initial NCAA NET rankings. They remain ranked 2nd overall in KenPom.
Kansas tumbled all the way down to No. 10 after taking two losses. Auburn stayed at No. 2 after taking a loss to Duke.
Tennessee will be back in action on Tuesday night against Miami at Madison Square Garden.
