Another piece of receiver depth will exit the program.

Another piece of the wide receiver room is planning on hitting the transfer portal. Chas Nimrod, who has played quite a bit over the last two seasons, will look for new opportunities in the portal.

Tennessee wide receiver Chas Nimrod plans to enter the transfer portal, he tells @On3sports.

Nimrod played both outside and in the slot for Tennessee. He will exit Knoxville with 29 career catches and 315 receiving yards after being called upon in multiple key spots following injuries. He played in 23 total games. Drops were a large issue, however.

The Arkansas native was a three-star prospect coming out of high school. He ranked 562nd overall in the class of 2022. Nimrod visited Kansas State, Illinois, Washington State and Utah State during the recruiting process.

Tennessee is suddenly left with a fairly thin receiver depth chart entering the College Football Playoff. That’s particularly notable considering Dont’e Thornton, Squirrel White and Bru McCoy all dealt with injuries against Vanderbilt. With Kaleb Webb also in the portal, Tennessee could be looking at a significant role for true freshman Mike Matthews against Ohio State, who flashed against the Commodores.

Braylon Staley and Nathan Leacock would likely be next on the depth chart behind Thornton-McCoy-Brazzell-White-Matthews. Welcome to the new reality of college football. The transfer portal dates and the College Football Playoff dates fall on top of each other, making for plenty of awkward, tough decisions.
