The Tennessee Volunteers revelated their 2025 Smokey Grey uniforms on Thursday, marking the fourth straight year that they’ve worn the alternate uniforms. And the theme behind them will certainly be met with approval from fans of the Big Orange.
Tennessee announced on Thursday that this year’s uniforms from Nike will be a nod to Davy Crockett and the nation’s Armed Forces.
A culture, a history, an identity.

The school had the following to say in their announcement:
Tennessee’s defining pillar of service and selfless leadership for more than 200 years, the “Volunteer Spirit” provides the inspiration behind the newest Nike Smokey Grey series football uniform that will honor the United States Armed Forces during the fall of 2025.
The “Volunteer Spirit” uniform also pays tribute to the ultimate legendary Volunteer, Davy Crockett, and was brought to life in collaboration with the Tennessee Military Department, the 134th Air Refueling Wing in East Tennessee and the Tennessee National Guard.
The theme is certainly admirable with the focus on the nation’s military and the state’s contribution to that with Davy Crockett’s legacy. The nod is made in the form of the grey fringe design on the shoulder pads as well as along the center stripe of the helmet.
The other thing that jumps off the screen are the central features of the unform itself – the colors and the design. The two-tone black/grey jersey and pants are, let’s say, remarkable. They will likely be among the top subjects of discussion among Vol fans who like or dislike the look. the orange military-style numerals are also unique.
This will mark the fourth straight year the Vols have worn the Smokey Greys. The 2023 version began to tie in historical themes with the nod to Condredge Holloway. 2024 was an ode to the Volunteer State and its history.
What do you all think of the look?
