For the first time in a couple of years, the Vols are No. 1.

Tennessee baseball remains on a tear, winning their seventh straight SEC series over the weekend. The Volunteers took game one and game three from the Florida Gators, bouncing back from a midweek hiccup against Lipscomb.

Now according to Baseball America, they’re the No. 1 team in the nation.

It’s the first time Tennessee has been ranked No. 1 since the end of the 2022 regular season. They jump over previous No. 1 Texas A&M after the Aggies suffered a series loss to LSU.

The Volunteers now sit 39-9 overall (17-7 in SEC play) after Saturday’s 16-3 run-rule victory. Tennessee put up 11 runs in the sixth to secure their fourth straight series win in Gainesville, which is a first in school history.

“I’ve said it to you guys before—I think it’s a stronger group, a tougher group is the right word, than we originally thought and they keep kind of pushing that line which has been fun to watch,” Vitello said of his team after the series win in Gainesville.

Tennessee moves on to face Queens in Knoxville for a midweek matchup. They’ll head to Nashville next weekend to take on Vanderbilt. Just two weekend series remain before tournament season begins (SEC Tournament — May 21-May 26 in Hoover).
