A replacement for the Nebraska series.

It didn’t take Danny White too long to find another non-conference partner to schedule a home and home with. Following Nebraska’s cancellation of a 2026-27 home and home series, White has now pivoted to Georgia Tech. The two schools announced a 2026 and 2027 date on Wednesday.

September 12th, 2026 will be the date for the first game, which will be played on campus at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets will then come to Knoxville on September 11th, 2027.

“After Nebraska canceled the series, our main focus was to secure another home-and-home matchup with an opponent from a Power Four conference, which seemed improbable at the time,” Danny White said via release. “I sincerely appreciate Athletic Director J Batt’s creativity in modifying Georgia Tech’s schedule to make this series possible. We look forward to seeing plenty of orange in Atlanta in 2026!”

Georgia Tech joins Kennesaw State and Furman on Tennessee’s 2026 non-conference slate. The former member of the Southeastern Conference was a common opponent for Tennessee until 1987. Since then the Volunteers and Yellow Jackets have met just one time — a 42-41 barnburner in Mercedes Benz Stadium back in 2017.

That game was played against Paul Johnson’s flexbone attack. Brent Key has since taken over and has built a more traditional program, going 7-6 in both of his first two full seasons in Atlanta.

Tennessee will open this season with a neutral site meeting against Syracuse in Mercedes Benz Stadium. They’ll also face ETSU, New Mexico State and UAB in Knoxville.
