They probably deserved the dip.
Tennessee moved to 5-1 over the weekend, escaping an upset bid from the Florida Gators. The Volunteers appeared dead in the water for the first 35 minutes of the game on Saturday night before finally flipping a switch and putting some points on the board.
Once again, it was the defense standing on its head to keep the Volunteers afloat. Multiple stops in the redzone and forced turnover were the only reason that game was still in reach. The Tennessee offense ended up doing just enough, winning in overtime 23-17.
As expected, AP voters were not impressed. Tennessee dropped to No. 11 in the latest poll, tumbling from their No. 8 slot last week.
Texas held firm up top, while Oregon moved to No. 2 after their win over Ohio State. The Buckeyes moved to No. 4, trailing No. 3 Penn State.
Alabama, which like Tennessee, had a similar scare at home to South Carolina, was not punished in the poll. The Crimson Tide stick at No. 7.
LSU was the big winner of the weekend, moving up five spots to No. 8 after their overtime win against Ole Miss.
