Well, the transfer portal giveth, and the transfer portal taketh away. After appearing to be largely unharmed roster-wise after one week, Monday morning brought some different news for the Tennessee Volunteers baseball team.
Per Go Vols 247’s Ben McKee, LHP Dylan Loy is entering the transfer portal.

That’s a significant hit to the bullpen, as Loy was a regular fixture, particularly on Sundays, where the Vols lacked a traditional starter that resulted in some series-clinching losses throughout SEC play.
But make no mistake, Loy was solid and a reliable presence for Tennessee out of the pen. In 33 games and 34 innings, he struck out 36 with 11 walks with a 3.97 ERA.
McKee indicated Loy is looking to become a starter, which would make sense as far as why he might be looking to move on. It’s still a though spot since the Vols are bringing in a number of RHP bullpen options through the portal while losing one of their reliable left-handed options.
We’ll see how Tony Vitello responds, but knowing him, he’s already been working for this possibility, so another shoe could drop in the Vols’ favor in the near future.
