The Vols earned the 14 overall tournament seed, which sets the winner of the region up with the winner of the Arkansas/Fayetteville regional. It goes without saying that that would be a very spicy matchup if both regionals end up going chalk.
However, that’s easier said than done for the Vols. Tennessee receives a red-hot MAC tournament champion in Miami (OH), who finished 35-21 after winning 9 of their last 10 games, including tournament play. While some regions received teams with losing records (national seeds), the Vols will have a team that could be somewhat of a challenge.
Cincinnati finished 29-23, but they have a solid resume, with series wins over tournament teams Kansas State, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Duke, and Arizona State. Wake Forest finished 36-20 and 16-14 in ACC play, but they have series wins at Florida State and at Louisville as well as vs. Miami. They also have a 16-5 non-conference win over Coastal Carolina.
It won’t be easy, but nothing ever is in postseason play. We’ll see how things shake out this weekend for Tennessee.
Go Vols!
