Two days.

Two.

Tennessee football — for better or for worse — returns in two days. We’re gonna say it’s for the better, at least for now. The Volunteers will hit the field against Bowling Green on Thursday night, set to roll out newly annointed starting quarterback Joe Milton.

Tennessee also set their depth chart, which surprisingly enough wasn’t filled with too many -OR- designations like we’ve grown used to seeing.

On with the links.

Heupel met with the media for his first official game week press conference. Most of the questions centered around the quarterback situation, but he did get into some defensive things, along with a little look at Bowling Green. Cedric Tillman, Jerome Carvin and Matthew Butler also fielded questions on Monday.

At SDS, Mark Nagi pens an open letter to Josh Heupel as he embarks on year one at Tennessee. He warns of the errors of Butch Jones and Jeremy Pruitt, and simply asks for him to field an interesting team in 2021.

At VolsWire, Dan Harrelson highlighted some comments from Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler, who spoke about facing Tennessee on Monday. Loeffler praised Heupel’s system, calling it ‘awesome’ and also noted the common misconception that he just throws the ball around all over the field. Loeffler said they have been studying Milton quite a bit, going back to some Michigan tape.

And over at College Football News, they developed a points system using the final AP polls to provide an all-time program ranking. Tennessee checked in at No. 10 overall, even after the brutal decade (well, decade plus, now) that was. The Volunteers came in just ahead of LSU, Georgia and Florida.

Expect much more coverage through today and tomorrow as we get set for the opener on Thursday night.
