A need filled.

Tennessee has picked up a commitment from Amaree Abram, who will be playing for his fourth team in as many years. The Volunteers had a big need at shooting guard, and began filling that need today with a capable shooter.

The news broke today via The Athletic.

About Amaree Abram

Abram began his career at Ole Miss, signing with the rebels as a four-star prospect in the class of 2022. He was ranked as the 64th overall player in the cycle, checking in as the 11th ranked point guard in the class, per 247Sports. Abram spent one season with Ole Miss before moving to Georgia Tech, where he appeared in just ten games. He ended up at Louisiana Tech last season, where he would start all 32 games.

The 6-4 guard averaged 12.3 points per game for the Bulldogs. He made 66 three-point attempts, shooting at a 37.3 percent clip.

How he fits with Tennessee

Abrams currently slots in as the starter at shooting guard for Tennessee. His veteran presence and shooting ability was much-needed, following the departures of Chaz Lanier, Jordan Gainey and Jahmai Mashack. Abrams also brings some ball-handling ability to the equation, and could fill in at point guard when Ja’Kobi Gillespie needs a break.

Gillespie now has a running mate in the backcourt, and it will be interesting to see where Barnes goes from here. Nate Ament gives you a ton of lineup versatility and could play at both the 3 or the 4. Regardless of how the staff sees him in that aspect, adding another capable guard is a must — unless the staff is just that high on freshmen Troy Henderson and Amari Evans.

Tennessee now has 11 on the roster with two open spots left available to be filled.
