The details.
It’s no secret — it’s going to be bone-chilling cold in Columbus on Saturday night. Much has been made about the temperatures with a southern team like Tennessee travelling north for a December playoff game, especially with a California kid playing quarterback.
As we close in on Saturday, we now have a clear picture of what to expect.
Saturday weather forecast for Columbus, Ohio
- Columbus will experience rain turning into snow on Friday, with the temperature dropping from 39 to the mid-20s. That snow will move out for Saturday, however.
- Saturday’s high is set for just 30 degrees.
- 10 to 15 mph winds will kick all day long as temperatures fall into the teens as the sun goes down.
- Sunset is set for 5:10, which is where you’ll see temperatures drop to as low as 14 degrees.
- There’s just a four percent chance of snow on Saturday night.
Ironically, Tennessee opened practice in the snow last week in Knoxville. The Volunteers played in a 30 degree environment in Nashville against Vanderbilt. Josh Heupel and the rest of the staff and players have downplayed the cold over the last two weeks.
“It’s a June day in South Dakota,” Heupel joked this week. “It’s going to be great football weather. A couple weeks ago, we played in 30-degree weather. We practiced in the morning, still chilly. As cold as it will be around this area and at the end of the day, you get between the white lines, weather doesn’t matter the temperature doesn’t. We’ll be ready to go play. It will be a lot of fun.”
Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET in Columbus on ABC.
