The Tennessee Vols’ placement in the polls evened up on Sunday afternoon, just one day after the Vols’ second bye week of the season.
The Vols held serve at #7 in the AP Poll, while also moving up from 8 to 7 in the coaches poll.

The Texas Longhorns fell from #3 to #6 in both polls after narrowly defeating Vanderbilt in Nashville 27-24, but it wasn’t quite enough to fall below Tennessee. The Vols did manage to leap the LSU Tigers in the coaches poll, who tumbled all the way down from 7 to 16 after losing 38-23 at Texas A&M on Saturday night.
It wasn’t a great day for the prospects of Tennessee making the playoff with two losses though. Texas A&M and Texas both prevailed and have one loss, making it likely they’ll meet as one loss teams in the final weekend with one finishing 11-1. Notre Dame also continues to look like an 11-1 team in the making after dismantling Navy 51-14. BYU, Miami, Indiana, and Penn State also all remained undefeated with impressive wins. Even Kansas State escaped defeated against Kansas and moved up as a one-loss team.
The most important thing is the Vols control their own destiny to the playoff, starting on Saturday night against a Kentucky team that’s completely lost their way. If they can find a way to slay the dragon in Athens and run the table, everything else is academic.
Go Vols!
