Tennessee had a heck of a fourth inning during their 11-5 win over Wake Forest on Monday night to win the Knoxville regional.
The Vols put up 7 runs to take a commanding 8-2 lead on the strength of home runs by Manny Marin and Andrew Fischer.
However, the big flies weren’t the only fireworks taking place in the inning. Wake Forest head coach Tom Walter was caught on the broadcast saying something, let’s say, foul. He can be shown saying the “f” word and something afterwards that I’ll leave to your eyes and mind to determine.
Wake Forest Head Coach had some choice words for Vols Andrew Fischer while he hyped up the crowd before his at bat…
Fischer proceeded to hit a home run.

It appears as though the suspicion of the second word was confirmed on Monday morning, when former Tennessee and current Wake Forest AD John Currie issued a statement with Walter apologizing for the latter’s comments.

Currie said the following: “I feel badly for those most hurt by such words.” However, Walter claims that he didn’t remember saying it, which I find to be an odd thing to profess in an apology. “While I do not remember the specific moment clearly, that language doesn’t reflect my values or the standards of this program”, Walter wrote. He also apologized to UT, Wake Forest, the SEC, and the ACC, rather than to those he potentially offended.
Fischer, fittingly, got the last laugh after Walter’s comments, depositing a 1-2 pitch over the wall in right field and jaunting around the bases like a mad man, Drew Gilbert style. If that’s not a last laugh, I don’t know what is.
On to Fayetteville.
