The Volunteers are looking to keep it rolling.
When the schedule first came out, this weekend certainly looked like it was going to be one of the biggest of the entire season. Now? Well, it’s just another run of the mill conference series. Tennessee has held up its end of the bargain, but Texas A&M — the preseason No. 1 team in the nation — has fallen apart.
The Aggies are 14-14 overall and just 1-8 in SEC play to this point. Ouch. They’ve been swept by Vanderbilt and Alabama so far and dropped two of three to Kentucky last weekend. Now they visit the undisputed top team in the nation.
It’s a rematch of last season’s College World Series, where the Volunteers took two of three to win a National Championship.
Texas A&M has been dealing with injuries all season long, including a season-ender to star third baseman Gavin Grohovac. They lost top reliever Josh Stewart for the season earlier this week.
Tennessee is 19-1 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium this season. They return home after two straight series on the road in conference play. The Volunteers have now won 12 straight SEC series, dating back to last season. That’s the fourth longest streak in league history.
