You hate to see a team’s season end on a technicality, but one team saw their season come to an end in absolutely brutal fashion.

According to FOX News, a no-hitter by Ensworth High School’s Connor Cobb was nullified and the team was forced to forfeit after Cobb was found to have gone one pitch over the 120-pitch limit in a game against Father Ryan High School. Ensworth head coach Jason Maxwell was the one who reported the violation.

Cobb had struck out 16 batters and had Ensworth on the verge of tying the best-of-three series. But with his violation, the team had to forfeit, abruptly ending their season.

Per FOX News, “The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association rule book states that an athlete must not throw more than 120 pitches in one day.”

As for Connor Cobb, he has a bright future in baseball ahead of him. Cobb has already committed to playing at college baseball powerhouse Vanderbilt and is one of their top prospects in the Class of 2024.

“I am blessed and honored to announce that I will be continuing my academic and baseball career at Vanderbilt University. I would like to thank everyone who has gotten me to where I am today. I am excited to be a commodore!” Cobb tweeted in 2021.

But if this is how his high school career ends, it’s going to take a lot of success in college to get over it.
