Jerry Stackhouse does not appreciate reports connecting him to the Detroit Pistons head coach vacancy.
The Vanderbilt coach and former Pistons shooting guard is “very interested” in coaching Detroit, according to 247Sports’ Eric Bossi. Stackhouse vehemently shot down Bossi’s report on Twitter this afternoon.
“Don’t listen to these [clowns]. It’s beguilement in the highest form. They have NO ACCESS to me or @VandyMBB so they choose to cater to the irrational and divisive 5.8% of Commodore Nation. #BEUS #dontfallforit #sources,” he tweeted.

Stackhouse’s declaration has Vandy fans ecstatic and Pistons fans experiencing mixed feelings.
“I absolutely love this man,” said one Vandy fan.

“Never thought he was a serious candidate to begin with if we’re being honest,” said one Pistons fan. “Detroit seems to be very interested in the current crop of NBA assistant coaches plus the obvious candidate like Udoka. I imagine the hire will come from someone at the NBA level.”

“So it sounds like Stackhouse isn’t especially interested in leaving Vanderbilt. This also reflects what Lindsey Hunter said about Stackhouse not being interested in the NBA right now,” another Pistons fan added.

“This gonna be funny af after he signs the contract,” chimed in another Pistons fan who hasn’t given up hope.

Stackhouse has gone only 61-69 in four seasons at Vanderbilt, but has posted back-to-back winning campaigns and consecutive trips to the quarterfinals of the NIT.
The Commodores went 22-15 in 2022-23, their best record since 2014-15.
