Recent Nick Saban Clip Goes Viral After Vanderbilt Beat Alabama

October 7, 2024 by The Spun

Meet The Cheerleading Squads Of The SEC (1:45)

Nick Saban never lost to Vanderbilt during his tenure as head coach of Alabama, or head coach of LSU for that matter. Yet his successor Kalen DeBoer is now 0-1 against the Commodores and Vanderbilt were happy to rub Saban’s face in it.

In what is perhaps the biggest upset in the history of SEC football, the Commodores defeated the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide, 40-35. After the win, they had a little fun with Saban by playing a fairly recent clip of Saban dissing their team on the Pat McAfee Show.

“The only place you play in the SEC that’s not hard to play is Vanderbilt. When you play at Vanderbilt, you have more fans there than they have. That’s no disrespect to them. That’s just the truth,” Saban said on the September 20th edition of the show.

Vanderbilt played this Nick Saban clip on the videoboard after beating Alabama tonight.

Well, it’s not the truth anymore. Head coach Clark Lea, quarterback Diego Pavia and the rest of the Commodores made a liar out of Saban today.

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd NFL Team, Vanderbilt even played that clip after the win.

Vanderbilt’s win today marked the first time in school history that they defeated a top-five team, let alone the No. 1 team.

It was Vanderbilt’s first win over Alabama since 1984. Lea was only three years old and none of the players who played in tonight’s game had been born yet the last time it happened.

This game will go down in history as the greatest win in the history of Vanderbilt football and it’s hard to think of a close second.
