The best save might have been in the 45-minute when Alex Bono made a terrific kick save on an Alistair Johnston shot. He also made a good save on a C.J. Sapong shot in the 75-minute. Bono also showed an ability to make reads on the shooter perfectly. His positive play played a role in TFC’s win. Of course, the other part of that is Nashville not converting on their chances.

Nashville SC did not take advantage of their chances

Nashville had 12 shots, but only three of them hit the target. Now some of those shots were very difficult to save and Bono stepped up when his team needed it most. However, they also did not take advantage of their chances.

Their first chance came in the 37-minute, but Dax McCarty missed the net. Nashville would score in the 41-minute when Robert Castellanos scored the game-tying goal with a header. Also, congrats to Castellanos, who scored his first-ever MLS goal. Strangely enough, the header came from a throw-in by Nashville player Dave Romney. Romney was credited with the assist.

They would get a lot more chances in the second half. Dave Romney’s shot in the 52-minute from the centre of the box missed to the left. And then Hany Muhktar had a glorious chance from very close range to get a header. However, his header was a bit high. Their best chance to win the game though came in the 76-minute, Castellanos’s header from the centre of the box was high and wide to the left.

Yeferson Soteldo was terrific in the first half

Toronto FC had only six shots and two on target. However, they capitalized on their first shot on goal. A terrific free-kick by Soteldo was met by a perfectly executed header by Omar Gonzalez. TFC at that point took the early 1-0 lead at BMO Field. Soteldo was terrific in the first half. He was getting past opposing players and creating chances for his teammates. Soteldo also had a shot in the 68-minute, but it was too high. He was not as good in the second half though and TFC had difficulty generating scoring chances.

It was not a perfect performance from TFC. There are still areas needed to be improved upon with their defence. However, they still were able to extend their unbeaten run to five games. They have also remained unbeaten at BMO Field this year, tying against both Orlando City SC and the New York Red Bulls. Nashville also extended their unbeaten run to seven games. However, Nashville will feel they could have gotten more from the game as they looked like the better team.

TFC is currently in 10th place in the Eastern Conference with 14 points. They are currently eight points behind CF Montréal, which has 22 points. Montreal currently holds the seventh and last MLS playoff spot. This is while Nashville is third in the Eastern Conference with 27 points. They are one point behind second-place Orlando. It is important to note though that fourth-place New York City FC is only one point behind and has played one less game than Nashville.

Toronto’s next game will be on the road against the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, August 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Subaru Park. This is while Nashville will also have a road game at Gillette Stadium against the Eastern Conference-leading New England Revolution at 7:00 p.m. ET. The TFC will game will be televised nationally on TSN4. Fans can also watch the game PHL17. This is while the Nashville-Philadelphia game will be shown on MLS LIVE on DAZN, TV38 & myRiTV, and MyTV30.
