Amazon Prime Monday Night Hockey: Buffalo Sabres vs Montreal Canadiens

October 20, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Monday Night Hockey on Amazon Prime television continues today with an Atlantic Division clash featuring the Buffalo Sabres taking on the Montreal Canadiens. Don’t forget to check out more NHL Predictions, as our writers continue this series throughout the 2025-26 season.

Monday Night Hockey: Sabres vs Canadiens

2024-25 Season Head-to-Head: Sabres 0-4 Canadiens

Time: 7:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

How to Watch:

U.S. TV: MSG Buffalo; ESPN+

Canada TV: Amazon Prime (Canada)

We have an Atlantic Division battle as the Sabres make the trip up north to take on the Canadiens in our main game of NHL predictions. This is the first meeting between the two teams, but expectations for both clubs are vastly different. Buffalo has been tabbed to be in the running to take Gavin McKenna with the prospective top overall pick in the upcoming draft. Meanwhile, Montreal has loads of young talent looking to take the next step.

However, the Sabres have won the last two games in a row. This includes a 3-0 shutout of the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Alex Lyon turned away 32 shots to get his first shutout in a Sabres’ uniform.

Montreal saw a two-goal lead evaporate in a 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday night. Noah Dobson scored his first goal as a Hab, but that wasn’t enough for the hosts.

Let’s take a look at this Monday Night Hockey matchup between Atlantic Division teams in this latest edition of NHL predictions.

The Sabres Story

Buffalo thought its season was slipping away again in familiar fashion. The Sabres had lost the first three games of the season, and the knives were coming out for general manager Kevyn Adams. However, wins over the Ottawa Senators and Panthers have steadied the ship for the moment.

Lyon is the projected starter for Buffalo, but always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. Youngsters Josh Doan and Zach Benson are leading the way with five points each. Jason Zucker is the team’s leading goal-scorer with three so far in this campaign.

Buffalo is tied for 26th in goals scored with 2.6 per game. However, the Sabres’ power play has a 27.8 percent success rate, which is good enough for sixth.

The Canadiens Story

Montreal had won consecutive games after dropping the season-opener to the Toronto Maple Leafs. This includes a pair of overtime wins at the end of the winning run. However, the Canadiens let one get away on Saturday night against the Blueshirts.

Sam Montembeault is looking to bounce back from a shaky performance in that Saturday night contest. Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki are the team’s leaders in points with eight. Caufield is topping the goals scored category for the Habs with five.

Montreal is top ten in goals scored with 3.5 netted per game. This is good enough to be in a tie for seventh in this young season.

Prediction

Buffalo seems at least be playing better. This game will be a good test to see if the Sabres are really a much-improved team. However, Buffalo is running into a motivated Montreal team looking to shake off an ugly loss.

The Habs did reel off four consecutive wins after the loss to the Leafs. This could be the start of another winning run.

Prediction: Canadiens win 5-2.

Prop Bets of the Night

We round this Monday Night edition of NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. The over/under for this game is 6.5, and the spread is 1.5. We like both the over on Montreal covering the spread.

As for individual props, go with Alex Tuch to get the over on 0.5 assists for Buffalo. On the Montreal side of things, take Brendan Gallagher to also record at least a point.
