Nashville Predators Sign Dante Fabbro Extension

The Nashville Predators have agreed to sign a  Dante Fabbro extension according to Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek. It’s a one-year, $2.5 million contract for the British Columbia native.

Predators Reach Dante Fabbro Extension

In re-signing for Fabbro, Nashville reatains a former first round selection from the 2016 Entry Draft. Unfortunately though, he never quite reached the level that warrants going 17th overall in the draft. This season, he scored one goal and seven assists for eight points, adding 36 minutes in penalties.

Fabbro’s possession numbers fell to career-lows this season too. At just a 45.4% Corsi-for and a relative Corsi of -5.0%, he isn’t driving the play or protecting his net as efficiently. Accross the board, his statline totals fall below any season prior.

Over his five-year NHL career Fabbro thus far played just for the Predators. In that time, he potted 12 goals and 14 assists for 56 career points in 228 career games. He’s been moved around all three main defensive pairs with the Predators. However, he’s yet to find the consistency that he had in juniors and at Boston University.

What a Dante Fabbro Extension Means

This move features in a long line of deals the Preds wrapped up ahead of the 2023 trade deadline. Although they still sat within earshot of a playoff spot, they dove head-first into “seller mode”. Besides trading Fabbro, Nashville parted with Tanner Jeannot and Nino Niederreiter in separate moves, too.

In return, the Tennessee franchise collected an abundance of draft capital and prospects. They netted five picks and Cal Foote for Jeannot alone, plus a second rounder for Niederreiter. Fabbro was rumored to be moved, but management decided to keep him. This summer, David Poile plans to retire and hand his General Manager duties to Barry Trotz. He’ll assume that job overseeing a roster in serious flux, and with tons of draft capital going forward to boot.
