NHL Predictions
Vancouver Canucks vs Washington Capitals
2024-25 Season Series: Canucks 1-1 Capitals
U.S TV: Monumental Sports Network; ESPN+
Canada TV: Sportsnet
Time: 12:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)
We open up NHL predictions with the Vancouver Canucks visiting the Washington Capitals. Thatcher Demko is expected to get the start in goal for Vancouver. However, always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. The Canucks have won two consecutive games entering this matchup. Conor Garland and Quinn Hughes are tied for the team’s lead in points.
Logan Thompson is the projected starter for Washington, which has taken its last four games after losing the season-opener. The Capitals are coming off a 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Friday night. Tom Wilson is first on the club in points with seven, while Aliaksei Protas tops the team in goals with four.
Both teams have plenty of momentum going into this game. However, Washington should pick up the win.
Prediction: Capitals win 3-2.
Edmonton Oilers vs Detroit Red Wings
2024-25 Season Series: Oilers 1-1 Red Wings
How to Watch:
U.S TV: Fan Duel Sports Detroit; ESPN+
Canada TV: Sportsnet
Time: 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)
Our featured game of NHL predictions has the Oilers trying to stop a two-game losing streak against the Red Wings. Stuart Skinner is the likely starter with Calvin Pickard playing the day before. Edmonton is looking to rebound from a 5-3 defeat to the New Jersey Devils. Connor McDavid has yet to score a goal, but leads the club with seven assists. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is first in goals on the Oilers with four.
John Gibson is the confirmed starter for Detroit, which has four consecutive victories heading into this matchup. Detroit does a good job staying out of the box with the third-least penalty minutes per game. The Wings have also killed off 91.7 percent of opposing power plays. Dylan Larkin is first in points (7) and is tied with Mason Appleton for the top spot in goals (3).
Edmonton will be motivated to win. However, it already had a tough loss the day before against the New Jersey Devils. The Red Wings should keep things rolling.
Prediction: Red Wings win 4-3.
Boston Bruins vs Utah Mammoth
2024-25 Season Series: Bruins 1-1 Mammoth
U.S TV: Utah16; NESN; NHL Network
Time: 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)
Our last game of NHL predictions has the Boston Bruins taking on the Utah Mammoth. Joonas Korpisalo is the expected starter after Jeremy Swayman got the call against the Colorado Avalanche. Boston has dropped the last three games after starting the season with three wins in a row. David Pastrnak is first on the team in points so far with six.
Karel Vejmelka is the expected starter in the crease for Utah, which has registered two straight victories. The Mammoth are one of the better defensive teams at the outset of the season with an average of 2.2 goals allowed per game. Nick Schmaltz bagged a hat trick in Utah’s 6-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks.
Boston is coming off a loss to Colorado, and Utah has plenty of momentum. The Mammoth should take this one at home.
Prediction: Mammoth win 5-3.
Prop Bets of the Night
We close out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. Let’s go back to our featured game for some of our preferred props. The over/under for the Oilers and Red Wings game is 6.5, and we feel that the over is the correct play.
As for individual props, go with Leon Draisaitl to get an anytime goal for the Oilers. On the Red Wings’ side, take Patrick Kane to get one step closer to goal number 500 with a goal.
