The Preds bolster their defense corps.

Today, the Nashville Predators signed defender David Farrance to a two-year, entry-level contract after his senior season at Boston University (BU) ended Saturday with a loss to St. Cloud State University in the NCAA Tournament.

Farrance—drafted 92nd overall at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft—has played the last four seasons for the BU Terriers, recording 88 points over 113 career NCAA games. In that time, he’s grown from a depth piece on the BU blueline to their top defender and a critical weapon on the power play.

The Victory, New York native played just 11 games this season due to injury but recorded five goals and 16 points, seven of which were primary ones scored at even-strength. Farrance recorded a primary point on 58.3% of the even-strength Terrier goals he was on the ice for this season.

Farrance’s game thrives when he has the puck on his stick. He plays with excellent skating mechanics and moves the puck at an elite level in all situations. He’s an excellent asset on the power play and has honed his defensive skills—particularly off the rush—during his college career. For a film breakdown of Farrance’s game, click here.

Farrance was a top-ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Award (given annually to college hockey’s top player) this season and last when he scored 43 points in 34 games—best among all defenders nationwide. For a closer look at the advanced statistics I tracked of Farrance, click here.
