One of the best wide receivers the NFL has seen in the past decade is expected to hit the open market. It was reported on Wednesday that Tennessee plans to release Julio Jones.
In his only season with the Titans, Jones had just 31 receptions for 434 yards and a touchdown.
Although his best days are behind him, Jones can still make an impact for teams in need of help at wide receiver. After all, he’s just two years removed from a season where he had over 1,300 yards.
So where will Jones end up? Here are three intriguing landing spots for the former All-Pro.
Kansas City Chiefs
It’s been reported that Kansas City is looking for another wide receiver for the 2022 season. Assuming that Allen Robinson is out of the Chiefs’ price range, they should consider making a run at Jones.
Jones wouldn’t have to worry about facing opposing team’s best cornerbacks since he’d be teaming up with Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. He’d also give Patrick Mahomes an intriguing weapon that he can utilize on jump balls.
New England Patriots
The Patriots have a plethora of intriguing pass catchers on their roster, but it just seems like they’re missing one more piece. Maybe, just maybe, Jones is the missing piece.
Jones would give the Patriots a wideout capable of making contested catches, working the sidelines, and making plays in the red zone. He could also be a mentor to younger players like Kendrick Bourne and Jakobi Meyers.
Atlanta Falcons
Who says you can’t go home? Jones had a Hall of Fame career in Atlanta, hauling in 848 passes for 12,896 yards.
If the Falcons land Deshaun Watson, they’ll need to bolster their receiving corps. Not only would signing Jones check off that box, it would make the fan base quite happy.
