Barring something absolutely shocking, the first overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft will not be a quarterback for the first time in five years. But we could still see some QB-needy teams looking for a signal caller on the first night of the draft.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday, NFL insider Peter Schrager reported that there are five teams that have been getting the most attention as potential teams to draft a QB in the first round. He identified the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions as the team.
The Panthers, Saints, Steelers and Lions appear to be the no-brainers on his list. All four teams entered the 2022 offseason with tons of uncertainty at the position.
The Titans’ presence on the list is a little bit more interesting though. They seem secure at the position with Ryan Tannehill coming off his third year as a starter.
But Tannehill’s contract is easy for the Titans to get out of after 2022. Perhaps they’ll try and get his future replacement tonight.

Unlike the last few drafts though, there’s neither a consensus top quarterback in the draft or a quarterback prospect that the majority of analysts project will be stars.
That isn’t to say that prospects like Malik Willis, Kenny Pickett, Matt Corral, Desmond Ridder and the like can’t be great. But if they are, it would be more of a surprise.
Will any of the five teams mentioned take a quarterback in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft?
