Ouch.

The bad news just keeps on coming for the Indianapolis Colts, a team that’s seen as the only realistic threat to the Tennessee Titans’ chances of winning the AFC South for the second year in a row (Sorry, Jacksonville and Houston).

Just days after it was announced that starting quarterback Carson Wentz would miss 5-12 weeks with a foot injury, we just got word from ESPN’s Mike Wells that all-pro left guard Quenton Nelson is suffering from a similar ailment, will undergo surgery and also miss 5-12 weeks.

BREAKING: Quenton Nelson has the same foot injury as Carson Wentz. He’s scheduled to have surgery in Indy later today with the same doctor as Wentz. Similar 5-12 week timeline for Nelson

This is obviously a massive blow to a Colts offense that’s already missing their starting quarterback and left tackle (Eric Fisher is still recovering from an injury himself). Even if Wentz, Nelson and Fisher are healthy enough to play in Week 1, these July and August practices are crucial to building team chemistry, especially when you consider that two of these three players are new to the team and play the two most important positions on offense.

Eerily similar to Wentz’s situation, team officials believe they’ll have a better timeline a couple weeks into Nelson’s recovery. Indy’s season opener, Sept. 12 against Seattle, is roughly six weeks out. A 12-week absence would keep Nelson out of approximately seven games.
