Could Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins end up on the trading block?

October 2, 2024 by Titans Wire

The Tennessee Titans brought in wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in 2023. Last season, he roped in 75 catches for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns.

Except when injured, Hopkins is almost always near the top of the receiver rankings, so it was a no-brainer to go after him when he became a free agent.

But in 2024, Hopkins hasn’t done what anyone expects of him. In the first two games, he caught just one pass each game. He’s dropping passes that hit his hands, but he’s also not getting as many targets as he did before as Will Levis spreads the ball around.

Hopkins’ contract expires at the end of this season, so it’s highly possible that the Titans will look to trade him before that happens. There are two places where Hopkins would be most likely to land if traded: Cleveland and Kansas City.

The Chiefs just lost Rashee Rice for an unknown amount of time with a knee injury and already struggled with depth at receiver.

The Browns are a more intriguing spot for Hopkins to land as he already has a history with starting quarterback Deshaun Watson, who lobbied for Hopkins back in 2023.

“I’ll just say this, D-Hop, DeAndre Hopkins, would love to be in a place where the opportunity is there for us to win,” Watson said at the time. “We check all those boxes. I think for us to know and make sure we check all those boxes on the national stage, we’ve got to go out there and prove it and I think D-Hop would love to be a part of that and proving people wrong.”

It would be interesting to see what the Browns would offer for Hopkins, an aging veteran who is currently underperforming, but if the price is right, the Titans have other options at receiver besides Hopkins.
