Kuharsky: Don’t expect Titans to claim DeSean Jackson

The Tennessee Titans did not make a move at Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. They instead opted for several roster tweaks, including the official additions of running backs Adrian Peterson and D’Onta Foreman to their practice squad, in addition to the releases of Avery Williamson and Mekhi Sargent.

One player the fan-base was clamoring for general manager Jon Robinson to acquire was deep threat receiver Desean Jackson, who requested a trade away from the Los Angeles Rams due to a lack of playing time a few days ago. The Rams failed to find a trade partner, and ultimately released Jackson.

Outkick reporter Paul Kuharsky does NOT expect Tennessee to make a claim for Jackson.

It was fair to wonder if the Titans would have interest in Jackson. They’re in the midst of making changes to their offense in the wake of the Derrick Henry injury. A speedster like Jackson could have perhaps helped them keep opposing defenses on their toes, which would force lighter boxes and allow more space for the new tandem of Peterson and Foreman to operate in.

The 34-year-old Jackson can still run. He is averaging an astounding 27.6 yards per reception on eight catches this season. He averaged 16.9 yards per catch in 2020, and 17.7 in 2019. They are relatively small sample sizes, but it’s clear that Jackson still has the juice necessary to get behind secondaries and make big plays in the passing game. According to Kuharsky, it won’t be happening in Tennessee.

The Titans take on the Rams this Sunday in primetime fashion. Stay tuned to MCM for all roster updates and in-depth analysis ahead of the contest.
