On Tuesday, Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill turned some heads because of his comments about Malik Willis.
Tannehill told reporters it’s not his job to mentor Willis, who was selected by the Titans with the 86th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
“We’re competing against each other, we’re watching the same tape, we’re doing the same drills,” Tannehill said. “I don’t think it’s my job to mentor him, but if he learns from me along the way, then that’s a great thing.”
Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner clearly isn’t a fan of Tannehill’s comments. He posted an emphatic message on Twitter about players who refuse to mentor their teammates.
“I will never understand the ‘I’m not here to mentor the next guy’ mentality… so for all you young QBs that need a mentor, DM me & I’ll be that guy, happy to help in any way I can,” Warner tweeted.
Quarterback coach Tom House was so inspired by Warner’s comments that he’s also willing to help young signal-callers.
Unsurprisingly, NFL fans are applauding Warner for his tweet this Tuesday.
Whether or not young quarterbacks – like Malik Willis – will take advantage of Warner’s offer is unclear.
Warner had an exceptional career in the NFL, earning Pro Bowl honors four times and winning Super Bowl XXXIV.
Young quarterbacks would most likely benefit from picking Warner’s brain.
