Kyle Philips explains why his Titans tenure didn’t pan out

February 5, 2025 by Titans Wire

While A.J. Brown and DeAndre Hopkins headline the list of former Tennessee Titans wide receivers in the Super Bowl, there is a third that goes overlooked. Former Titans fifth-round selection Kyle Philips will be there as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad.

Philips, who caught 23 passes in two seasons with the Titans, was released with an injury designation in August, ending his career in Nashville and starting his journey to Philadelphia. He spent all of 2024 on the team’s practice squad and has not seen any gameday action.

For whatever reason, his career never took off in Tennessee and, as he says, he can’t diagnose the exact reason.

“Injuries, production. On special teams, I started struggling a little bit,” Philips told the Tennessean. “I was doing all right on offense, and then a hammy or something would happen. I don’t want to pin it on one thing because I feel like at the end of the day, whatever happens happens. But who knows?”

The 2022 NFL draft clearly did not pan out for the Titans at the wide receiver position. After trading away A.J. Brown, neither Philips nor first-round pick Treylon Burks has moved the needle, with both being plagued by injuries.

Philips is now with Brown on the Eagles and Burks is a huge question mark after failing to impress before seeing his season end on injured reserve after suffering an ACL injury.

Ironically, Philips is teammates with Brown as they head into the Super Bowl in an attempt to dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs. While he may not see action in the game, Philips has made an impact by helping prepare the Eagles for what they are going to face on Sunday.
